Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Analyst / Analyst to join our front-office Japanese Power Trading Analytics team. The successful candidate will support short-term power trading through market analysis, price forecasting, bidding curve modelling, and real-time market intelligence. Depending on experience, the successful candidate will either independently lead analytical initiatives (Senior Analyst) or contribute to model development and market analysis under guidance while progressively expanding ownership (Analyst). Level will be determined based on experience, technical capability, and demonstrated commercial impact.

Key Role Responsabilites

1, Market Analysis

Monitor and interpret short-term movements in Japan’s power market
Analyse key market drivers including demand, supply, weather, fuel, outages and transmission constraints
Produce day-ahead and intraday market commentary

Independently develop market views and communicate actionable insights to trader

2, Forecasting

Produce Week-ahead, day-ahead and intraday price forecasts
Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to identify risk in the forecasts
Participate and present analysis to the traders at the daily meetings

Own forecasting methodology and continuously improve forecast performance

3, Model development

Contribute to the continual improvement of the price forecasting models within GMJ
Present ideas for new analysis
Collaborate with Data Engineering and Bespoke development team to improve processes and data quality

Direct development requirements and identify new modelling opportunities

4, Collaboration

Work closely with traders, operational teams and overseas colleagues
Present analytical findings clearly to stakeholders

Provide technical guidance and mentor junior analysts where appropriate

Qualifications
Academic background in Energy Systems, Engineering, Applied Economics, Physics, or relatedquantitative field
Master’s degree preferred; strong Bachelor with Honors will also be considered
At least 1 year of relevant experience in power market analytics, energy trading, or systemmodelling. Outstanding candidates with less experience may also be considered.
Basic understanding of Japan’s wholesale electricity market and pricing mechanisms
Proficient in Python and SQL; experience with practical data processing tasks
Clear logical thinking and effective communication
Fluent in both Japanese and English (required). For Japanese nationals: must be able tocommunicate effectively in English in a business environment, both verbally and in writing. Fornon-Japanese nationals: must have strong command of Japanese, including the ability to readmarket regulations, analyse Japanese-language data sources, and participate in internal/externaldiscussions.
Experience

Approximately 1-3 years of relevant experience in Power market analytics, Energy trading, Market forecasting and System modelling
Basic understanding of Japan’s wholesale electricity market
Experience with Python-based analysis and data processing

Proven experience developing bidding curve models and forecasting methodologies
