Overview:

Communication and Trade Surveillance (CTS) is responsible for identifying potentially unusual transactions and inappropriate business activities. CTS therefore monitors trade data and electronic communication and also handles enquiries from regulators. Surveillance is a key function to monitor and correct employee’s conduct.

The surveillance quants role is responsible for taking the initiative in implementing the advanced self-service analytical capabilities and automating manual processes that in turn will reduce operational risk and improve review quality with proper IT planning and prioritization.

The role will entail the design and implementation of risk-based surveillance models to establish an analytics function to identify suspicious trading patterns.

It is also expected for the position to proactively communicate with Technology and various counterpart inside and outside of Compliance to define, prioritize, and lead various initiatives. There are a lot of opportunities to co-work with offshore colleagues and supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:

Designing and developing complex trade surveillance models
Enhancing existing surveillance tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of monitoring controls
Performing big data analysis applying statistical techniques to identify potential market manipulation, insider trading, etc.
Tracking progress of projects
Leading Compliance monitoring process re-engineering initiatives
Liaising with IT and Compliance colleagues
Proper and timely escalation and reporting without hesitation

The candidate will have:

2-5 years working experience in an analytical or a technical role
Strong programming skills, preferably in R, Python, Pyspark, Java Script, VB, etc.
Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle
Experience in Data analysis. Familiarity with Hadoop and the related toolset: Hive, Impala, Pentaho and Cloudera Data Science Workbench is a plus
Good communication skills in Japanese and English (both verbal and writing) is desirable
An advanced degree in a computational field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or Statistics)
