This is an exciting opportunity to join the team to improve and strengthen the fast evolving framework for managing Climate and ESG related risks, to implement robust governance and to enhance efficiency. Reporting locally to Head of Planning & Regulatory Affairs in Tokyo Risk Management and functionally into the Global Head of Climate Risk & ESG in London, this role will be the second in command for the central team, taking ownership for key BAU activities and project initiatives. The team is very small but it works closely with many other business and risks teams who are actively engaged in Sustainability programs including Credit Risk Management, Stress Testing, Sustainability dept. and Wholesale division.

The role will be focused on the following:
・Actively participating in delivering key components of the Global Climate Risk & ESG program in line with regulatory & other supervisory requirements / expectations, and with our firm wide strategy
・Designing, implementing and documenting new measures and controls to managing climate risk
・Designing and producing committee presentations and MI that deliver key messages coherently to regional and global senior management, and other internal and external stakeholders
・Liaising with Business stakeholders in key climate-related business areas on both project related and BAU related matters
・Keeping up to date on relevant regulatory, supervisory and industry developments relating to Climate Risk and ESG, and conducting gap analyses to identify any changes in the framework that need to be implemented
・Collaborating with Data Management Office and Risk IT to develop the data strategy, and to implement enhancements in strategic risk platforms for reporting and models to effectively manage Climate & ESG related risks
・Ensuring all new controls and tools for managing Climate and ESG comply with internal governance standards

●Mandatory requirements
・Business level English communication skills
・Bachelor’s/undergraduate University degree
・7+ years of relevant experience in Risk management in a consultancy or financial services institution
・Experience in Risk & Sustainability, and good knowledge of global Climate Risk / ESG regulations and disclosure requirements for banks in multiple jurisdictions
・Excellent knowledge of techniques for addressing climate data / methodology challenges
・Strong financial product knowledge and a good working knowledge of standard risk measurement techniques including scenario analysis
・Experience in IT infrastructure and/or data management development projects
・Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly to and influence senior internal and external stakeholders
・Able to work well under pressure either individually or collaborating with diverse groups within the organization

●Preferred skill / experience
・Business level Japanese communication skills
・Sustainability or Climate Risk accreditation e.g. GARP SCR or equivalent
・Credit risk management or stress testing experience
・Experience in working on global data and infrastructure projects
・Basic risk modelling skills
・Programming capability in Python or R, and Advanced Excel/VBA and Power BI
